Nokia Sizes Up Taiwan Deals

Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) got a bit peeved today by reports that it would look to cut costs by outsourcing some handset manufacturing to Taiwanese vendors, following a report in the China Times.

The report suggested that meetings between representatives of the Finnish company's new global outsourcing unit and a number of Taiwanese suppliers -- including Quanta Computer Inc. and Compal Electronics Inc. -- were set to take place this month.

"There isn't any news -- none at all," claims senior communications manager Marianne Holmlund. "We haven't made any announcements. Any meetings with any suppliers are team business meetings."

Expect the official announcements later in the year, then.
