UTICA, N.Y. -- NetTest, a leading worldwide provider of testing, monitoring and management solutions for advanced and converged networks, today announced the addition of the CMA 5400 PMD 160 module to its CMA 5000 Multi-Layer Test Platform. This module replaces the CMA 5400 PMD 80 module.

Utilizing the Interferometric method as recommended by the TIA FOTP-124, this new module scans a range up to 160ps, doubling the maximum PMD value that can be measured. Standard light sources, which allow 48dB of dynamic range cover most applications; however, an optional 65dB light source is available to measure ultra long haul links. NetTest’s patented cross-correlation technique and choice of light sources enables us to offer high dynamic range, fast, accurate measurements and the capability to measure PMD through EDFAs.

An extremely user-friendly GUI includes several modes of operation that expand the functionality, as well as make it easier for operators to perform PMD tests and qualify a network. This expanded functionality includes a histogram mode that tests the evolution of PMD with time and a multiple scan mode that guides the operator through the required steps to measure multiple scans over multiple fibers. A powerful reporting feature can display graphs and statistical information, as well as simple pass or fail test responses either on the unit’s display, on paper or as PDF files.
