OTTAWA -- Mitel® today introduced Mitel Mobile Extension, an application that enables mobile workers to access the rich features and functions of the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) on any mobile device. Mitel Mobile Extension builds on Mitel’s extensive portfolio of mobility solutions to deliver in-the-moment communications that drive competitive advantage and business success through lower costs, higher accessibility and faster decision-making.

“Mobile workers currently rely on premium cost, low feature mobile services and devices, creating islands of communication and congestion points that impair business efficiency and productivity,” said Mitel CTO Jim Davies. “Mitel Mobile Solutions eliminate these problems by seamlessly extending rich IP communications office features and functions to corridor warriors and road warriors regardless of the device used.”

Almost two-thirds of business-related mobile calls occur at work or at home according to research published by Strategy Analytics. In Europe The Ovum Group estimates enterprises are spending up to half their telecom budgets on mobility, while Gartner research has found that employees typically divert calls to their mobiles, even when they are in the office.

Available now, Mobile Extension provides users with:

  • one number/one voicemail functionality

  • simultaneous ringing of mobile and desk or teleworker (home) phones

  • easy call handoff from mobile to desktop, teleworker or HotDesking phone

  • cost savings by avoiding “mobile minutes” while in the office or teleworking

Mitel Mobile Solutions are enabled by the Mitel Mobility Server which seamlessly blends the wired and wireless worlds by extending rich telephony features such as voicemail, conferencing and speech recognition to the mobile device of the user’s choice, regardless of service provider.

“Mitel’s Mobile Extension enables me to be in contact with my customers whether I’m at my desk or not by ringing me on whatever device I have assigned in my profile,” said Rainer Wachalovsky, director of IT for Marin County College. “The greatest benefit I have found is the ability to take or initiate a call in my car as I’m driving in to work and switch to my desk phone when I arrive at my office. I can also switch back to my mobile if I happen to have a meeting to attend across the building.”
