TORONTO -- MERA Systems, a forefront supplier of VoIP session management technologies for carriers and service providers, today announced that Mirage Telecom, a California-based telecom carrier, has deployed MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch (MVTS) on its international network to efficiently manage the growing traffic volumes utilizing most attractive routes in terms of cost and quality of connection.

Mirage Telecom offers a full range of VoIP services to residential and business customers including wholesale traffic termination for service providers. Recently, Mirage Telecom has opened a new VoIP route to Syria, which will help to solidify the company's presence in the Middle East. The company's management team is positive about great opportunities in the region and expects to add another hefty load of traffic to the 100 millions of minutes it carries every month. Expanding to a new region is always a challenge, and Mirage Telecom was looking for a reliable and cost-effective solution, which would enable the company to maintain its reputation of a quality carrier and offer highly competitive rates to bring in new customers and partners.

After two months of thorough testing, MERA's MVTS proved to be a perfect match for the company's infrastructure, and demonstrated full conformance to the stringent requirements in terms of interoperability and scalability. MVTS collects traffic from Mirage Telecom's numerous points of presence, ensuring flawless interoperability of distributed networks, and makes sure that equipment from different vendors is seamlessly integrated into the global infrastructure of Mirage. With the capacity of 5,000 concurrent calls, MERA's solution provides for easy and efficient smart routing, enabling the carrier to direct calls to the most cost-effective and quality routes, driving the profits up and keeping the costs low.

Mirage Telecom first started as a wholesale carrier, but it is now diversifying its activities in the United States with retail products and services, including prepaid cards, long distance and ANI services. In less than two weeks, Mirage is launching a specific Syria prepaid calling card, which will also be available for purchase online via the company's website. Importantly, the MERA technology powering the carrier's network delivers the critical levels of scalability necessary to accommodate the growing traffic volumes, and will enable the carrier to increase capacities "on-the-run" without any risk to the already established business.

"Our presence in Syria has been a priority issue for the past few months and so was the choice of vendor for the core network component, which will handle the increasingly high call volumes in the region and globally," comments Frank Sawaf, CEO of Mirage. "We considered offers from several VoIP leaders who set the benchmark in the industry these days, and we have chosen MVTS as the most efficient solution for our business in view of the current growth. From the time of preliminary consultation throughout the installation process we received extensive professional support from MERA's engineers, who were ready 'to go an extra mile' and make some product customization on the way. As our business grows, we will definitely need to scale up the network and this is where a customer-driven philosophy works best. Fine-tuning and the ability to customize the core solution are prerequisite for successful management of a complex network infrastructure, and close cooperation with the vendor is the key to an operator's success. We are glad to walk hand in hand with MERA on the way to growing our business in the highly competitive VoIP world today and into the future."
