Microsoft's App Store Arrives

3:55 PM -- Tomorrow's the big day for Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT)'s mobile app store, the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. On October 6, the software giant will go head-to-head with app stores from Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK), BlackBerry , and mobile operators themselves. Applications in the Marketplace will work with devices based on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. Support for Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 will happen by the end of the year. In November, Microsoft plans to add a PC-based catalogue, user generated app reviews, and certain anti-piracy protection features.
