ALLENTOWN, Pa., and DALLAS -- Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A), today
announced that Metro-Optix has selected a suite of Agere's networking
integrated circuits (IC), systems-on-chip (Sock) and opt components for use
in Metro-Optic's CityStream platform, a "protocol-agile" bandwidth
management product that will help speed the transition of traditional
circuit-based networks to next-generation, high-performance cell- and
packet-based services over optical networks.
Metro-Optix currently deploys a broad range of Agere's network Sock and opt
components in CityStream, targeted to service providers including Internet
service providers as well as long-distance, regional and local
telecommunications carriers.
"Metro-Optix and Agere shared a common vision from the start-to simplify and
integrate optical networks while packing in more speed, functionality and
performance,"
said Ed Roberts, vice president of Agere's Networks and Communications
business unit.
