CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- McLeodUSA Incorporated (Nasdaq:MCLD), one of the nation's largest independent competitive local exchange carriers, today announced the addition of two new Executive Vice Presidents to its senior management team effective August 5, 2002. Shawn Vick has been named Executive Vice President of Sales, and Andreas Papanicolaou has been named Executive Vice President of Network Services. These two executives complete the new senior management team the Company has built as part of its revised strategic direction and comprehensive reorganization. Vick joins McLeodUSA from Bombardier Aerospace where he was senior vice president of international sales. Prior to Bombardier, Vick held increasingly senior sales executive positions at Gulfstream Aerospace from 1994 through 2000, most recently as vice president -- North American sales. He brings eighteen years of sales and marketing leadership experience and was a key member of the Gulfstream executive team that drove substantial profitable revenue from 1994 through 2000. He has a successful track record of leading sales teams to produce revenue growth in a cyclical industry, which has had characteristics similar to the current telecom environment. Papanicolaou comes to McLeodUSA from Lucent Technologies where he was the general manager of optical network management beginning in October 2000. In that capacity he was responsible for development and marketing of operations support software that enabled telecom service providers to deliver end-to-end services while managing the quality of service in their networks. Papanicolaou spent more than 25 years at Bell Labs, AT&T and Lucent where he participated in the transition from analog to digital technologies in three industries: telecom, cable and broadcasting. He brings diverse experience in network design and traffic engineering, architecture and protocols in ISDN, frame relay, SONET/SDH, ATM, Internet and IP/MPLS. McLeodUSA Inc.
