SAN JOSE, Calif. -- LynuxWorks(TM), the technology leader in the embedded software solutions market, and Cavium Networks, the cost and performance leader in security processing today announced that Cavium Networks has joined Lynuxworks' SynergyWorks Alliance program and the partnership has led to demonstrations of 1.1Gbps of encrypted IPsec traffic on a standard Xeon-based, off-the-shelf server platform. Standard server platforms with the Linux operating system and security processors are being used today by a wide variety of security appliances, such as VPN gateways, Integrated Firewall/ VPNs, SSL Webservers, SSL VPNs, Content Load Balancers, etc. Today's partnership will help Linux-based security appliance vendors reduce their crypto-processing hardware cost while simultaneously improving the performance of their security appliances. 1.1Gbps encrypted IPsec traffic was achieved with LynuxWorks' BlueCat operating system version 4.0, Cavium's TurboIPsec software toolkit version 1.1, and Cavium's NITROX XL Acceleration Board NPB-1220 running on 1.8 GHz single, Xeon-based Dell PowerEdge 2600 Server. The IPsec cipher suite used was 3DES+SHA-1 and packet size was 1400B. LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux operating system is an enhanced implementation of the Linux model, based on Linux kernel version 2.4. TurboIPsec is a FreeS/WAN based IPsec software toolkit that seamlessly integrates Cavium's NITROX Security Macro Processor APIs and drivers with the Linux operating system. The recent release of TurboIPsec version 1.1 supports Linux kernel 2.4.x. The NITROX XL Acceleration Board NPB-1220 is a PCI/PCI-X based security protocol acceleration card that can plug into standard server PCI expansion slots. "We are happy to test compatibility of Cavium's TurboIPsec software toolkit on LynuxWorks' BlueCat Linux," said Jeff Twombly, vice president of sales and marketing for Cavium Networks. " By working with top-tier Linux operating system vendors and offering low-cost, high-performance security acceleration options such as PCI/PCI-X cards, security Motherboards from ABIT and NITROX Lite Processors, we are enabling our vision of a 100% secure and authenticated Internet."
