SEOUL -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU - News) today announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply AnyMedia(r) Line Access Gateways (LAG) to KT, South Korea's largest communications service provider, for its NGN project. KT is moving quickly into packet-based next-generation networks and this LAG build-out is an early and integral part of their network evolution plan. Under the terms of the contract, Lucent will deliver AnyMedia(r) LAGs to build access networks to provide 824,000 lines in the western part of the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon province, Chungcheong province and Daegu-Northern part of Kyungsang province. The commercial service is scheduled to start at the end of this year. "KT is determined to move quickly towards NGN to realize profit-generating value networking," said Jeong-bong Kim, director, Network Planning and Coordination Group of KT. "We believe that as Lucent already understands our existing networks and the future of the network we are planning, they are the right technical partner for this initiative. We look forward to working with Lucent to create long-term value for our customers." The AnyMedia(r) LAG is a highly scaleable, multi-service platform that supports both narrowband and broadband services. With its "any service" application slots, KT can support any combination of digital subscriber line (DSL), plain old telephone service (POTS), integrated services digital network (ISDN) and special services. The AnyMedia(r) LAG secures KT's future-proof network investment because it can be enhanced with IP interfaces for delivering packet-based services. It also reduces operating expenses by consolidating network components and simplifying network operations. Lucent Technologies Inc.KT Corp.
