MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced multi-year contracts valued at $50 million with the United States Department of the Army to provide network integration and professional services for a major data infrastructure upgrade at Army installations in North America and Asia. The agreement is part of the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP) aimed at upgrading the voice and data infrastructure at the Army bases.

Lucent's Government Team will provide the Army with a broad range of professional services, including planning, design, implementation and operations in support of the upgrade, as well as on-going maintenance, program management and engineering services throughout the duration of the contracts.

Lucent also is working to integrate the upgraded network into the existing multi-vendor environment currently in place with the Army.

The network upgrades will enable increased reliability and network security in a mission-critical environment, allow data to be moved more quickly in a cost-effective manner and provide seamless transition of systems, databases and hardware.

"Lucent has a long and successful track record serving the U.S. Army. We understand the Army's needs and requirements," said John Meyer, president, Lucent Worldwide Services. "Lucent has a great deal of experience in serving the needs of the U.S. Government, and this contract from the Army is testament to that long-standing commitment and experience. This is also a milestone development for our services business as we work to transform Lucent into becoming a leading network integrator for service providers and government entities. We have the industry's most experienced and knowledgeable services team, and we are expanding our worldwide services capability to deliver complete managed services, professional services and multi-vendor solutions to service providers."

Lucent and its predecessor has had a team of people dedicated to working with the Army as part of the I3MP project for more than 10 years and recently completed upgraded networks at several bases located in the United States. The upgrades are scheduled to be completed by 2006.
