MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Extending its leadership in remote access and Voice over Internet (VoIP) technology, Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - news) today announced a new universal gateway featuring 'carrier-grade' reliability, performance and scalability. The product will enable service providers to quickly generate new revenue and cut their network infrastructure costs. The new APX 1000(TM) Universal Gateway enables service providers--including Internet Service Providers (ISPs), CLECs and IXCs--to offer residential and business customers the industry's highest-density solution for delivering converged voice and data services--including V.92 and V.44 remote access, Internet Call Diversion (ICD) and SS7 call control, virtual private networks (VPNs), and VoIP--in a seven-foot rack. By comparison, competing solutions offer half the number of voice and data services in the same footprint and are less reliable than the APX 1000."The APX 1000 extends Lucent's leadership in VoIP and remote access," said Linda Manchester, vice president and general manager for Lucent 's Universal Gateway group.
