WARSAW -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) has been selected by Telekomunikacja Polska (TP), the largest telecommunications service provider in Poland, to deliver a turnkey software and services solution that will enable TP to significantly reduce network management complexity and operations costs.

Under the terms of the agreement, Lucent will provide its Navis(R) Network Fault Manager (NFM) and NetMinder(TM) Network Trouble Patterning (NTP) Software. Lucent's Navis(R) Network Fault Manager (NFM) Software will enable TP to manage, as a centralized function and remotely, 81 5ESS(R) switches in TP's network, including TP's international gateway switches. The NetMinder(TM) Network Trouble Patterning (NTP) Software will be installed for selected 5ESS(R) in TP's network, which will allow TP to optimise its own and interconnect network to improve the quality of service and increased revenue.

Lucent Worldwide Services will install and integrate the systems and provide on-going support for the network management platform.

"We have a history of working with Lucent on network element management projects in Gdansk and Szczecin," said Janusz Podraza, director of Telekomunikacja Polska's Network Monitoring and Management Department. "We were satisfied with the solutions, and Lucent has proven to be a reliable partner. We are looking forward to the same level of expertise and commitment that will allow us to execute this project flawlessly and on time."

"We are glad to provide TP with our highly scaleable network and service management software, which fulfils their current needs and offers significant extension opportunities," said Andrzej Dulka, INS sales director for Lucent in Poland. "We have a large installed base of 5ESS(R) switches in TP's network and we believe that the investment TP is making in management software is going to pay off today and for many years to come."

To date, Lucent has installed 81 5ESS(R) hosts in TP's network throughout Poland, with 76 serving as local switches supporting approximately 3.5 million TP subscribers, while the remaining ones are transit and international switches. As part of the project Lucent will also upgrade the 5ESS(R) hosts with a direct TCP/IP interface, based on the High Speed Data Transfer (HSDT) solution. The HSDT circuit pack provides TCP/IP interface directly to the switch as a valuable alternative for commonly deployed X.25 protocol. It provides support for IP-based file transfer and remote terminal capabilities.

The Navis(R) Network Fault Manager (NFM) software purchased by TP centralises the surveillance and enables quick identification of the root cause of network problems resulting in the minimization of service interrupts. This function is provided via NFM's advanced alerting and event correlation capabilities, network status displays, and remote access of network elements. As the network and services evolve to integrate new technologies, NFM provides TP with a flexible solution that will meet the changing needs of the network to provide complete fault management coverage today and into the future.

The NetMinder(TM) Network Trouble Patterning (NTP) system provides increased quality of service and revenue through optimisation of the TP's network and it's interconnection gateways. By using real- time statistical analysis and "adaptive thresh holding," the system learns the network behaviour patterns of voice, data and SS7 networks. Based on NetMinder(TM) NTP's alerting, reporting and analysis capabilities, operators can easily and quickly tune their network to achieve optimal quality of service and revenue.

Navis(R) NFM and NetMinder(TM) NTP systems allow management of multi-service networks built on multiple technology domains and with network equipment coming from different vendors. Both solutions are part of Navis(R) iOperations software portfolio, Lucent's open, standards-based portfolio of Service, Network and Element Management Systems. The Navis(R) iOperations portfolio is deployed worldwide, supporting provisioning, surveillance and performance management of advanced services across multi-vendor, multi-technology networks.
