LR Reshuffles Private Companies List
Seven of them, to be exact. Only three companies remain from the previous edition of the list, which was crafted in March 2006.
We scored a couple of hits in the last list, as BigBand Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: BBND) and Infinera Corp. (Nasdaq: INFN) came out with their IPOs. Obviously, that takes them off the Top 10 list. (See BigBand IPO: Boing! and Infinera Goes Out – And Up.)
To review: The list's objective is to flag those companies most likely to go public or get acquired; those that do so get transferred to the Liquidity Bin.
Other than the IPOs, some choices got dicey. What should we do, we mused, with familiar names such as BroadSoft Inc. , Force10 Networks Inc. , and lifetime club member Calix Inc. (NYSE: CALX)? Each has made the list multiple times -- but are they still hot commodities, or just trying to mooch free drinks in the Top 10 lounge?
Then we had to take into account the number of markets that have heated up in the past year and a half, technologies like video, wireless, and the suddenly interesting world of femtocells.
The result is a freshly packed list. Of course, the fun part comes next: You get to tell us all our mistakes. "How could you ignore this company?" "What were you smoking to put that one on the list?" And so on.
Feel free to use the message boards to vent your feelings, or email us at [email protected] to tell us who's truly hot, or not. And take our poll.
