CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer, Inc. (NASDAQ: PKTR), a leading provider of application traffic management solutions, today announced that Logitech (NASDAQ: LOGI), a leading developer of hardware peripherals for PCs and console entertainment systems, has deployed Packeteer to ensure performance of applications on a newly converged network at 13 sites around the globe.

Logitech's legacy frame-relay network incorporated four independent networks - two frame relay networks for different purposes, a voice network and video network over ISDN line. Logitech addressed QoS issues by giving each traffic type a permanent virtual circuit (PVC). The company considered this a less-than-optimal solution. In the words of Pierre-Olivier Monnier, CTO of Logitech, "we decided that it was time to do something smarter".

Packeteer delivers an application traffic management system via intelligent appliances at the LAN/WAN interface. This helps enterprises maximise IT investments by aligning network applications and resources with business needs, and providing significant cost savings in the process. The Packeteer system protects and accelerates key business applications and controls malicious, recreational and other non-business traffic.

"I wanted to merge my data network for access to ERP applications; a data network for internal communication, data base replication, file-transfer, and e-mail; and a VoIP network for communications between our various sites around the world. Plus, I wanted to add videoconferencing capabilities," said Monnier. "Packeteer had the technology that we needed to make it successful."
