HANNOVER, GERMANY and SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- LightPointe, an innovator, designer and manufacturer of optical transmission equipment using Free-Space Optics (FSO) technology, today introduced its newest product line for carriers at CeBIT, in Hannover Germany.LightPointe’s FlightStrata™ is the FSO industry’s only multiple-beam tracking system that incorporates multiple transmitters and a receive lens array to address scintillation and temporary path obstructions. The system also incorporates automatic power control (APC) and optical beam shaping (OBS) to provide greater performance under a variety of atmospheric conditions. The FlightStrata was developed by LightPointe’s international engineering team, which built upon the company’s highly successful FlightSpectrum™ product line, the FSO industry’s first customer-deployed system in major carrier networks. The first commercially available versions of the FlightStrata provide 52 megabits and 155 megabits and are being introduced in the European and Americas markets. The FlightStrata’s proprietary Multi-Beam Array Tracking (MBAT) steers four laser beams and a receive lens array as a highly redundant single transceiver source through the air between link heads mounted atop buildings or behind office windows. The product’s automatic power control feature adjusts system power output in lower-visibility weather conditions and provides higher fade margin over shorter distances. The Multi-Beam Array Tracking, in conjunction with optical beam shaping, enables the most cost-effective and optimal performance of FSO equipment.“The FlightStrata provides a new benchmark for FSO performance and value,” said John Griffin, LightPointe President and Chief Executive Officer. “When you combine our proven multi-beam technology with tracking and automatic gain control, the result is precisely what our customers demand. Our customers will certainly be delighted to hear that we managed to produce this system with essentially adding minimal costs to the system package. We’ re proud to achieve another market first.”LightPointe Communications Inc.
