While news networks like Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC scramble to deliver coverage of the Democratic National Convention beginning today, Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) will be working behind the scenes to distribute broadcast and online video.

Months ago, Level 3 announced that it was chosen by the Dems to offer online video delivery and broadcast backhaul services for the convention. But now, the breadth of services it will be delivering is starting to come into view, with help from a handy schematic the company drew up for the event.

Vyvx was the best thing Level 3 got from purchasing WilTel.

I did a search for Vyvx yesterday when I saw this article and per their website:

http://www.level3.com/index.cf...

they still have it.

DG's management sure talks like they own it. Here is the 8K from Level3: http://tinyurl.com/58aybb

Summary: Level3 sold vyvx last year to DG, deal finished in June.

PS. Sorry if this posts twice, LR is unresponsive today...

Stevery,

Level3 kept the Vyvx video backbone as part of their corporate strategy. They intend to connect their live broadcast network with their CDN. This enables them to take live broadcasts, transcode them on the fly and push simultaneously push the feed out over the internet.

The 8-k specifically notes that they sold the vyvx spot ad business BUT kept the video transport business.

Silence Dogood - Thanks for the clarification, I did not appreciate that only part of Vyvx had been sold.
