Le iPhone Update
Orange (NYSE: FTE) confirmed that its Orange France business, which began selling the Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) device on November 28, sold 70,000 iPhones by the end of 2007, with 48 percent of those sales to new subscribers.
The carrier had previously reported selling 30,000 iPhones during the first five days of availability. (See Orange Boasts IPhone Sales.)
In the U.K. there were plenty of unconfirmed reports that Telefónica UK Ltd. had reached 200,000 iPhone sales by the close of last year, but also a report from magazine Mobile Today that sales had fallen short of expectations.
O2 UK began selling the device on November 9. (See Europe iPhones It In and iPhone's Damp Squib.)
