AMSTERDAM -- KPN Mobile The Netherlands ("KPN") announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU") with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei") in which Huawei will be the provider of KPN's UMTS core network equipment. According to the agreement, Huawei and KPN will work together to build a complete nationwide 3G/2G Circuit Switch/Packet Switch core network.

A unified 3G/2G core network simplifies KPN's mobile network structure while reducing operation and maintenance costs for its mobile network. Huawei's high-capacity mobile softswitch equipment can reduce network transmission costs, enabling fast deployment of new applications, and its powerful SGSN/GGSN equipment is well-suited for HSDPA's service traffic. As a global leader in mobile softswitch, Huawei's mobile softswitch ranks #1 worldwide in port shipments with 50 million users and its packet switch core network ranks #2 worldwide in port shipments with 40 million users.
