SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced it has acquired Acorn Packet Solutions, Inc. in a cash transaction valued at up to approximately $8.7 million. Acorn Packet Solutions develops products and technologies that natively connect legacy Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and other circuit-based applications across next-generation IP networks.

Initially targeted at the U.S. Federal market, these solutions enable customers to protect their investments in legacy network technology, such as TDM and serial encryption, while providing a smooth migration path to more flexible and cost-effective IP networks. With this acquisition Juniper is enhancing its solutions for Federal customers as it continues to advance its strategy to secure and assure the delivery and performance of applications over an IP network through best-in-class traffic processing.

“Juniper Networks is focused on delivering secure and assured networking solutions that enable organisations worldwide to capitalise on the cost and scaling benefits of IP. Helping customers transition to converged IP networks supporting a range of services including data, voice and video, while protecting their investments in legacy technologies, is a key part of that. With Acorn Packet Solutions, Juniper gains best-in-class technology and deep expertise to help customers effect this transition smoothly and cost-effectively,” commented Carol Mills, executive vice president and general manager, Infrastructure Products Group, Juniper Networks.

“Acorn has done an excellent job of differentiating itself in the Federal market as a leader in circuit to IP migration. With this acquisition, Juniper is demonstrating its continued commitment to supporting the Federal government in re-architecting its mission critical networks,” commented Thomas Kreidler, vice president, Federal Systems, Juniper Networks.
