SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Today at the Spring VON show, Jasomi Networks gave the first demonstrations of the long-awaited embeddable version of its PeerPoint Session Border Controller for VoIP. PeerPoint Embedded Edition is targeted specifically at vendors of softswitches, gateways, firewalls, and IP-PBX’s, and will allow those vendors to embed session border controller functionality right inside their products. This functionality will allow VoIP products to work across networks that contain Network Address Translation (NAT) or firewall components, such as those commonly found in large enterprises. The new PeerPoint Embedded Edition also provides full support for mid-call encryption, signaling transcoding among UDP, TCP, and TLS, and call logging.

The new edition provides critical support for the large, complex network deployments that are becoming more common as the VoIP market matures. The ability to embed session border control functionality within a product line provides a competitive advantage when selling to customers who prefer buying complete solutions from a single vendor.

“The release of PeerPoint Embedded Edition is the formalization of the work we’ve been doing on an ad-hoc basis with other vendors over the last 9 to 12 months,” said Benjamin Freedman, VP of Marketing at Jasomi Networks. “By formalizing the availability of a software-only embeddable version of PeerPoint, we’re recognizing and responding to the growing number of demands for this kind of solution.”

In a separate release:

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Jasomi Networks today announced that Packetalk has deployed Jasomi’s award-winning PeerPoint NAT traversal solution for VoIP networks. PeerPoint was deployed to solve the far-end NAT and firewall traversal problems that must be overcome by all VoIP service providers looking to serve the 74% of residences and 98% of businesses whose networks are behind firewalls.

Packetalk, a New York-based company led by a team of seasoned IP-broadband and VoIP veterans, deployed Jasomi’s solution as part of its push to deliver best of breed VoIP services directly to the end-user premise.

“We found Jasomi’s products to be best-in-class when it comes to far-end NAT traversal for enterprise networks, giving us the power to reach and serve our customers,” said Gaute Solaas, Chief Technology Officer at Packetalk. “Jasomi quickly helped us achieve our aim of running IP from edge to edge in our own privately managed broadband networks, and also let us facilitate a far-reaching SIP service deliver environment with ease.”

In another release:

LONDON -- SIP systems integrator and online retailer ETphones.com Ltd today announced a new partnership with Jasomi Networks, creators of the award-winning PeerPoint line of VoIP network boundary traversal and session controller products. The partnership is aimed at expanding the range of SIP-based communications products offered to the enterprise, enabling faster deployment and greater use of VoIP for business users.

Etphones.com offers online sales of SIP products and performs system integration services for enterprises and service providers seeking to implement VoIP solutions. The addition of Jasomi Networks’ network boundary traversal and session control technology to the offerings of Etphones.com will make it possible to equip customers with solutions facilitating communication between VoIP networks.

“The combination of Etphones’ integration expertise and Jasomi Networks’ robust network boundary traversal suite of products is a winning one. We look forward to offering these solutions to our rapidly expanding customer base,” said Ed Keegan, Director Sales and Marketing at Etphones.com.

“We’re very excited about the potential to be derived from this relationship,” said Benjamin Freedman, Vice President of Marketing for Jasomi Networks. “VoIP is definitely coming of age, and companies that can form solid relationships will ultimately provide the best solutions for their clients.”

It was also announced:

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Jasomi Networks unveiled upgrades to its award-winning PeerPoint line of VoIP session controllers today at the Spring 2004 VON Conference and Expo in San Jose. PeerPoint has responsibility for defining points of ingress and egress for VoIP data streams that carry calls across NAT firewalls into and out of a network, enabling different VoIP carriers to communicate with each other and apply the proper billing. It is currently deployed by over 40 service provider and enterprise customers.

New capabilities in PeerPoint v3.2 being launched at VON include:

  • Enhanced mid-call media encryption complying to RFC3550 as an extension to the already-supported RFC1889. Mid-call encryption allows the sound and control packets for a call to be encrypted as they traverse from the secure internal portion of an enterprise’s network onto the insecure external portion. This capability is significant because calls involving external parties such as customers or suppliers often travel over the open Internet where they could be eavesdropped if they were not encrypted. However, much of the VoIP call control equipment that is currently deployed inside an enterprise does not support encryption, and so would not be able to cope with encrypted call packets entering from the outside world. Jasomi’s PeerPoint bridges the gap, supporting encryption to the external call parties, and decrypting before sending inbound streams to internal non-encrypting equipment.

  • Extension of call logging to allow per-call log control across a network of PeerPoint units in order to meet CALEA and SEC auditing regulations. PeerPoint has the ability to create the audit log for voice, video, instant message, and presence information associated with each call.

  • Improved Protocol Repair capabilities, enabling even more low-cost phones and terminal adapters to be used with otherwise-incompatible upstream call processing equipment.

  • Improved hot-failover support, now with failover time configurable down to sub-second levels for collocation operation, or higher levels for geographically distinct deployments.

  • Improved SOCKS5 proxy support with more authentication modes supported, so that financial services businesses using SOCKS5 proxy firewalls can employ PeerPoint’s strong protocol-level classification, modification, and routing capabilities without having to revise their existing security environment.

Now on its third major release, Jasomi’s PeerPoint solves network boundary traversal solutions for enterprises and service providers.
