CALABASAS, Calif. -- Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, announced today a new purpose built Application Load Module (ALM), an integrated hardware and software platform optimized for delivering stateful Layer 4-7 transactions, enabling high performance, high capacity, and unparalleled test repeatability for verification of enterprise applications and content-aware devices and systems. The ALM provides 8 powerful processors, up to 8 gigabytes of RAM, and 8 gigabit Ethernet ports in a single compact blade compatible with the full line of Ixia chassis.

Network Equipment Manufacturers will use the new ALM to test the performance of their systems under realistic load conditions. The new ALM also provides Enterprises and Service Providers with unprecedented density, performance, and flexibility for testing enterprise applications, networks, web sites, VPNs, and other intelligent network devices.

The ALM's architecture features a dedicated high-speed processor on each port running the Linux operating system. The ALM is used in conjunction with Ixia's award-winning Real World TrafficTM Suite to generate high-rate application transactions, large session capacities, and high network throughput load.

"The ALM extends Ixia's Linux-based open platform by setting a new price/performance and processing density benchmark," said Cliff Hannel, Ixia's vice president of engineering. "Using Ixia's integrated hardware and software platform allows Ixia and third party applications to be run on hundreds of processors as easily as one, providing unmatched scalability, performance, manageability, and consistency."

The unique capabilities of the ALM test platform dramatically lower total cost of ownership while maintaining compatibility with Ixia's existing line of chassis, load modules, operating system software, and Real World Traffic SuiteTM applications. Virtually any test case at Layers 2-7 can be realized using Ixia tools in combination with each other.

"Our customers have asked us to offer a highly scalable solution that can test the behavior of their networks with realistic traffic," said Ted Fornoles, Ixia's Ethernet product manager. "We specifically developed the ALM to 'turbocharge' our Real World Traffic SuiteTM of layer 4-7 applications, delivering scalability needed to generate application layer traffic load from hundreds of thousands of simulated clients and servers, ensuring proper behavior of business applications across their network devices."

The new Load Module, which operates within the IXIA 1600T, IXIA 400T, IXIA 250 and IXIA 100 Chassis, fully supports Ixia's full-line of Layer 4-7 applications such as: IxChariot for application traffic simulation; IxWeb, for HTTP, SSL, and FTP testing; Radview's WebLOAD for web site stress testing; as well as Ixia's sophisticated IPSec security application, IxVPN.
