LONDON -- Internet connectivity has taken a big leap forward, propelled by broadband take up in emerging economies as well as a prevalence of internet connectivity from a wider range of devices from smart phones to tablet PCs. Everyday objects such as a photo frame or a fridge may also be connected to the internet creating what is being dubbed the ‘internet of things’.

Fuelled by this fast growing demand, IPv4 addresses will run out in the future. The push is now to deploy IPv6 which would support a massive increase in IP addresses over IPv4.

Cable&Wireless Worldwide was one of the first network providers to roll out IPv6 on its global internet network. AS1273, the company’s strategic internet platform, has been enabled to support IPv6 since 2001 and extensive IPv6 peering.

C&W Worldwide is already meeting early demand for IPv6 networking from carrier and content distribution network customers.
