GAITHERSBURG, Md. -- BroadSoft®, the world's premier provider of VoIP application software, today announced that iiNet Limited (ASX: IIN) has selected BroadSoft's BroadWorks® VoIP application software to support its residential VoIP offering. Mixing the latest in advanced features with competitive pricing, iiNet's VoIP service will launch in Australia by mid year.

"VoIP, or Internet telephony, is the next generation of communications, and allows customers to make significant savings on their long distance and international phone calls," said Greg Bader, chief technology officer, iiNet. "We chose the BroadWorks technology as the platform for our VoIP product for its scalability, and the easy-to-use advanced features."

"We're proud to be chosen by iiNet, one of the largest ISPs in Australia and New Zealand," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO at BroadSoft. "This latest customer win further validates BroadSoft's position as the leading residential VoIP platform. BroadWorks keeps our customers ahead of the competition by providing an open architecture that scales to support millions of users and an ever-evolving list of new and exciting features."

iiNet's VoIP service will enable home users to realize significant savings on their monthly telephone bills, by using IP networks instead of the telephone network for making calls. Some of the additional features that iiNet VoIP customers can receive include:

  • Retrieval of voice messages from any phone or email account;

  • Automatic dialing from Microsoft Outlook to key contacts;

  • Video calls that can be integrated into a traditional phone call;

  • Forwarding selected incoming calls to voicemail, email or another phone;

  • Distinctive ring tones for incoming calls.
