SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Fortinet, the premier provider of network protection systems and the only provider of ASIC-powered, network-based antivirus solutions, today announced that its FortiGate product line has received antivirus certification from ICSA labs, the independent testing unit of TruSecure Corporation. To achieve certification, the FortiGate products underwent rigorous testing and successfully detected and stopped all of the viruses and worms that infect networked computers of all types. The FortiGate products are the first ASIC-powered Network Protection Gateways (NPGs) to receive antivirus certification from ICSA labs. "Network deployment of antivirus technology is an important complement to host-based antivirus software because it can detect and eliminate threats before they enter a private network," said Larry Bridwell, content security programs manager at ICSA Labs. "This is especially important given the widespread use of Web-based email systems by employees for their personal email, which often bypasses a company's email servers -- and their antivirus protection. The FortiGate products successfully stopped all of the viruses that are of concern to users, and did so with real-time performance." To achieve ICSA's antivirus certification, the FortiGate NPGs successfully blocked 100% of the "WildList" viruses, which are those known to be propagating and causing damage "in the wild." The six-member FortiGate line scales from SOHO to service providers, and with capacities of up to two gigabits per second provides the horsepower needed to scan real-time Web traffic, in addition to email traffic, for a wide range of content-based threats.
