Huawei's Next 6 Months

8:00 AM -- How can Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. CFO Cathy Meng be so confident that her company will hit its aggressive growth targets in 2011? Let us count the ways:

  • Huawei's revenues from consumer devices -- mobile phones, dongles, tablets and a range of fixed line home devices such as set-top boxes and broadband gateways -- grew 64 percent year-on-year to US$4.2 billion for the first half of 2011. (See Huawei Hikes Device Sales.)

  • The company's sales revenues grew 11 percent for the first half of 2011 to US$15.33 billion, giving it an operating profit of US$1.93 billion. (See Huawei Reports H1 2011.)

  • Huawei's recent moves in the mobile baseband chip market and its new Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex (LTE TDD) phones and data cards mean it could own even more of the growing mobile device ecosystem. (See Huawei's 3G Reveal and Huawei Readies LTE TDD Device.)

  • The Americas are warming up to Huawei. Hey, even Texas's pro-business Governor Rick Perry is a Huawei guy. And as Texas goes, so goes the U.S. Seriously.

  • Huawei's next smartphone aimed at India has a pretty aggressive spec and will likely be a hit. (See Huawei's Vision For India In December.)
