Embratel selects next-generation platform from Huawei, enabling it to offer local lines and Internet access through ADSL/VDSL

SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Huawei Technologies, a global supplier of telecom infrastructure, today announced that the company was awarded with a significant NGN contract by Embratel, the Brazilian premium telecom provider, for their network convergence and future migration with U-SYS enhanced NGN applications and advantages.

According to the contract, Huawei will supply Embratel with a total NGN platform which will allow the operator to offer local lines and Internet access through ADSL/ VDSL to the residential market and SOHO. The platform can quickly achieve one-hundred thousand individual lines.

“Embratel has established a partnership with Huawei, to provide its NGN network , catering to the residential market and SOHO. Huawei’s state-of-the-art technologies are based on the network convergence principle, which, we believe, is going to prevail in the future. With this technology, Embratel will be able to provide services of telephony, video, data transmission and value added services on a single platform,” said Mr. Ivan CampagnollI Jr., CTO of Embratel. “The new network will offer services like local basic telephony and broad band (BB) access, initially in a pilot project in Porto Alegre (RS). Later on, the services will be extended to Sao Paulo (SP) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ), then to other big Brazilian cities, like Belo Horizonte (MG), Brasilia (DF), Curitiba (PR), Salvador (BA), Recife (PE) and Fortaleza (CE). Then, quickly to all over the country” he added. Mr. Aloysio Xavier, Embratel Marketing Director, said: “This platform will allow Embratel to increase its marketing competitiveness in the Brazilian Market, offering new services much beyond voice, that nowadays are not offered by any other operator in Brazil”.
