Huawei becomes mainstream gear supplier for Korea Telecom’s backbone network

SHENZHEN, China -- Huawei Technologies announced that it was awarded the contract to supply Korea Telecom Corp. (KT for short) with next-generation Internet equipments on Nov. 5, 2004. KT Corp. selected Huawei Technologies’ multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) for its next-generation optical network, which is also known as South Korea’s first NG-SDH 2.5G/10G backbone network contract and makes Huawei Technologies a mainstream supplier of NG-SDH equipments for KT Corp.

KT. Corp, South Korea’s biggest fixed-line and broadband operator, owns the leading advanced telecommunications network in the industry. In recent years, KT Corp. is devoting itself to the planning and construction of NG-SDH network in South Korea in order to satisfy the development of its domestic telecommunications business in the future. To ensure its competency in the domestic market renowned as one of the most mature telecommunications markets across the globe, KT Corp. sets up high standard for gear suppliers, and is well known for the strict requirement on equipment performance and function features in the industry.

Huawei Technologies is proud to state that it has successfully fulfilled KT Corp.’s NG-SDH Benchmark Test (BMT) and becomes one of the two international gear suppliers out of twelve to pass the network entrance test, which demonstrates the qualification for bidding competition. In addition, with the high-quality product and quick responsive service, Huawei Technologies finally won the first NG-SDH contract with KT Corp., another breakthrough that Huawei Technologies has made in South Korean market after the SDH 10G contract it signed last year with KT Corp.
