Huawei Rakes In WiMax Sales

9:15 AM -- Huawei says it expects a massive surge in sales for WiMax network equipment over the next year and a half, according to this report in Reuters.

The Chinese vendor said that overseas sales for WiMax gear will double from $500 million in 2009 to $1 billion in 2010. That growth will come mainly from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, but the vendor sees limited potential for the wireless broadband technology in China.

So while the 3G network buildouts in China have helped boost Huawei to be the third largest wireless infrastructure supplier, behind Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) and Nokia Networks in terms of market share, according to Dell'Oro Group , the vendor is making big waves worldwide in WiMax as well.
