LOS GATOS, Calif. -- Network security and flow classification market leader Hifn(tm) (Nasdaq: HIFN) and Global Technologies Group, Inc. announced today that Global Technologies Group's new PowerCrypt 5X features Hifn's 7956 security processor. GTGI's PowerCrypt 5X is an encryption accelerator card that provides hardware-assisted encryption, decryption and one-way hash functions to programs that could benefit from such assistance, such as IPsec implementations and bulk file encryption. The PowerCrypt 5X is intended to operate in any computer with a PCI bus, revision 2.2 or better. The 5X is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit PCI slots, at either 33 or 66 MHz bus clock. Driver support for the 5X is already included in OpenBSD 3.4, as well as FreeBSD; Linux support is forthcoming.

The Hifn 7956 security processor utilized in the PowerCrypt 5X performs 3DES and IPsec AES encryption at up to 632 megabits per second. The security processor also performs public key processing and true random number generation, thus relieving hard-pressed CPUs from having to provide the functionality necessary to establish VPN connections. Hifn's signature LZS and MPPC compression engines operate at 700 megabits per second, boosting overall system performance. The 7956 accelerates a variety of IPSec and SSL/TLS protocols, including DES, Triple DES, AES (with 128, 192, and 256-bit key lengths), and ARC4 encryption; MD5, SHA-1 hashing and authentication; RSA, DSA, SSL, IKE, and Diffie-Hellman public key support; 3,072-bit modular arithmetic and exponentiation, plus true Random Number Generation (RNG). A dual host bus interface provides direct access to the MPC860 or MPC8260 bus and to any PCI host system. Coupled with the available software development tools, the 7956 can be readily designed into new systems, making it possible for networking equipment manufacturers to substantially reduce the time needed to take new products to market.

George Allen, President of GTGI praised Hifn by saying, "The Hifn technology offers GTGI the benefits of a fully featured technology and very rapid time-to-market for our line of encryption products. Hifn's investment in encryption technologies at the chip level combined with our integration capabilities is a perfect match for solving our customers' most difficult challenges." "GTGI's PowerCrypt 5X provides end users requiring high-speed network security a cost effective IPsec compliant solution," said Tom Moore, Hifn's vice president of marketing and sales. "End-users, integrators, and manufacturers of Firewalls and Virtual Private Networks will find the PowerCrypt 5X easy to integrate into existing and future products." Available today, the 7956 is packaged in a 144-pin TQPF. The power requirement is 1.5 V core and 3.3V I/O. The 7956 is priced at $24.50 in quantities of 10,000.
