Fred D'Alessio, former president of Verizon's Advanced Services Group, joins Hatteras Networks' board of directors

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Hatteras Networks, a developer of innovative last-mile carrier Ethernet access platforms, today announced the appointment of Fred D'Alessio to its board of directors. D'Alessio brings to Hatteras more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. As president of Verizon Communication's Advanced Services Group, D'Alessio was responsible for launching its Long Distance, Broadband ISP and DSL businesses, pioneering a new approach to business and consumer data service deployment. His insight into the evolution of the telecommunications industry and extensive experience in rolling out carrier networks will be invaluable to Hatteras as it delivers its Access Class Ethernet(tm) platform to the world's largest carriers. "The battle for last-mile business customers has typically been won by carriers that offer the best overall value proposition," said D'Alessio. "Hatteras Networks is well positioned to help carriers mine their existing infrastructure for meaningful new revenue with a purpose-built, carrier-class last-mile Ethernet access solution." Prior to becoming president of Verizon's Advanced Services Group, D'Alessio held senior management positions at Bell Atlantic. He was vice president of operations and engineering at Bell Atlantic, president and CEO of Bell Atlantic Maryland, and group president of Bell Atlantic's consumer business, where he managed an organization of more than 40,000 employees. D'Alessio was also assistant vice president of regulatory matters for New Jersey Bell and has served on the board of directors of Telecom New Zealand. Hatteras Networks
