Great White North

1:25 PM -- Well, it's about time: Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) has put out a press release about wiring up Greenland.

The project should be completed before the winter season of 2008.

Winter? Greenland has other seasons?

Now we just need someone to put broadband access on Kerguelen:

Kerguelen's weather is harsh, with rain and snow most days of the year. Winds blow continuously from the west, as the islands lie in the path of the "Furious Fifties". Winds of 150 kph are common, and gusting up to 200 kph has been known.

Any takers? Hey, it's probably better than Inaccessible Island.

re: Great White North Greenland is getting broadband?

They are doing better than many places in the US.

re: Great White North oomph. don't remind me.

Actually, I'm content with my broadband situation for now. But it's one thing to be outdone by Korea, another one entirely to get topped by Greenland.

Thanks for the link -- Greenlandic is one crazy-ass language, isn't it.
