Google Lunch

2:45 PM -- Today I experienced the much-hyped Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Lunch. (See The Google Life.) A friend of mine from college works there and invited a few of us over. I figured: Hey, it don't cost nothing, so why not?

So I headed two train stops uptown to Google's New York office located at 111 Eighth Avenue, which is also the site of perhaps the biggest carrier hotel in the country. I have a couple of observations. First, I immediately noticed that the majority of the employees milling about the office were slightly overweight. When we arrived at the cafeteria, I could see why.

I put together a random plate of salad, scallops with some yummy mystery green sauce on them, hangar steak, herb roasted chicken, escargot in a garlic butter sauce, and some white bean casserole type concoction. Was it good? Sure. Great? No, not really. But it certainly beats any other employee cafeteria I've seen. Like I said, it don't cost nothing.

The best in show however was by far the oatmeal raisin cookies. That and the scooters lying all over the hallways just beckoning you to act like a four-year-old.
