Google & Verizon

9:05 AM -- It will be fairly amusing if the rumored G-Phone talks between Verizon Wireless and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) turn out to have some wind behind them.

Consider the way that the companies have been butting heads over the upcoming 700 MHz auctions recently. I suppose the prospect of a hot device to sell could easily trump potentially difficult legal battles for both parties.

You'll recall that Verizon reported $2 billion mobile data revenues for the third quarter of 2007, up 63.4 percent over the year before and representing 20 percent of all service revenues. So popular new devices that drive downloads are hugely interesting to Verizon and other carriers.
