SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Force10 Networks®, the technology leader for building and securing intelligent services networks, today announced the addition of a 90-port line card to its ExaScale™ family of virtualized switch/routers. The line card, built for the ExaScale E1200 and the ExaScale E600 midsized chassis, delivers industry-leading 10/100/1000Base-T density and reduces power consumption by up to 70 percent per port – the industry’s lowest consumption rate. The non-blocking card also significantly cuts ongoing operational expenses by implementing simplified, next-generation management technology, flexible virtualization applications and open technology.

“Force10 has produced a line card and chassis that allows network-centric enterprises to scale cost effectively in a virtual environment – without bottlenecks or buffer delays, and regardless of the size or type of data being delivered,” says Zeus Kerravala, senior vice president of the Yankee Group. “The ExaScale E600 is the only switch/router in its class delivering Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 100 Gbps of useable data capacity per slot without exceeding budget limitations.”

At 100 Gbps/slot data capacity, the ExaScale card enables deployment flexibility and optimized investment protection with line-rate and non-blocking scalability for up to 1,260 10/100/1000Base-T ports in a half-rack chassis, or 630 ports in a one-third-rack chassis. The new line card is based on the ExaScale suite of advanced, packet processing and switching ASICs that leverage Force10 high-performance hardware and software design expertise; patented backplane technology, and industry-leading density, performance and flexibility.

Leveraging the Force10 Virtualization Framework

The ExaScale E600i switch/router incorporates the Force10 Virtualization Framework technology suite, which enables service providers to build, manage and automate network and application performance and processes.

“Whether the customer is operating virtualized data centers, cloud computing or HPCC network environments, the ExaScale product portfolio is designed specifically to deliver unmatched functionality, flexibility and ongoing investment protection,” says Steve Garrison, vice president of marketing, Force10 Networks.
