Euro Carrier to Deploy Sycamore Gear

CHELMSFORD, Mass., and PARIS -- Sycamore Networks (NASDAQ: SCMR), a leader in intelligent optical networking, today announced that it has signed a multi-million dollar, multi-year agreement to provide LDCOM, a European broadband communications provider, with its SN 3000* Optical Access Switch and SN 4000* Optical Edge Switch. The agreement will enable LDCOM to deploy an all-switched intelligent optical network over its existing metropolitan and long haul infrastructure. LDCOM will add the SN 3000 and SN 4000 to its existing network, in which it has already deployed Sycamore's SN 8000* Intelligent Optical Network node, to create an end-to-end all-switched intelligent optical network.

"The opening of local access in Europe through xDSL, wireless local loop or UMTS is freeing capacity to meet end user demand for broadband services. Operators need to adapt their network to very high traffic growth, whenever and wherever it appears," said Fred Gastaldo, COO of LDCOM. "We believe that an intelligent, all-switched optical network infrastructure from Sycamore will enable us to scale our network to provide this flexibility to carriers and service providers."
