Even after everyone had a few glasses of wine, we couldn't get interview subjects to razz Nan Chen on camera. Oh well. Maybe for the 20th anniversary, we'll have the MEF bring out the vodka.
As I said at the dinner, we all understand that there would be no MEF without Nan. He remained tenacious when some big vendors told him that the idea was superfluous given all of the existing Ethernet groups. Nan was thinking services when most were still thinking transport and that is why so many of us respect him for his accomplishment.
Nan deserves no razzing and I seldom will say that. Thanks for pulling out the camera too.
I'm one of those ex-Nortel founders and we really had to fight the SONET business people to have them even consider something called an Ethernet Service. It was POS forever.
