LR Preps Ethernet Interconnect Demo
The "Global Interconnect Demonstration" -- which will involve multiple service providers and Ethernet systems vendors, with support from the MEF -- will be held at the Ethernet Expo: Europe 2009 event at the ExCel Conference Centre in London on May 13–14, 2009.
Industry rumors that Britney Spears will mime her latest chart hit at the event could not be confirmed at press time.
What can be confirmed, though, is that a number of carriers are already involved in planning the demonstration, which will include the live interconnection of international MEF-defined carrier Ethernet services.
A giant screen will display and track the interconnected circuits and services on a live Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Service Map, which will also show key performance and management information.
The service demo, the first of its kind, is significant because Carrier Ethernet service interconnect is such a major issue for carriers and large enterprise users that need to hook up their global sites, a task that involves traversing multiple operator networks. Among the services to be demoed will be live interactive videoconferencing sessions that will connect the Ethernet Expo show floor and multiple locations around the world, with real-time service quality checks.
Delegates at the Expo, which is free to attend for carrier and enterprise executives and industry investors, will also get a close-up view of the hardware and software provisioning, activating, and interconnecting the services at the demo's vendor showcase.
“The single most important goal of the Global Interconnect Demo is to comprehensively demonstrate Carrier Ethernet service providers’ readiness to interconnect and rapidly expand their service offerings in response to pressing enterprise demand for Ethernet services with a worldwide footprint,” stated Iometrix president Bob Mandeville as he stitched three switches together in his California lab.
Carriers and vendors who would like to participate in the demo should contact Mandeville at [email protected], or phone +1 949-400-4444.
Visitors to the two-day Ethernet Expo in London can also catch up with the latest developments in the carrier Ethernet world, including service updates from the likes of BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA), KPN Telecom NV (NYSE: KPN), Virgin Media Business Ltd. , Telefónica SA (NYSE: TEF), and Verizon Enterprise Solutions .
