LONDON -- Ethernet Europe 2011 -- Euronews joins you live from the Marriott Hotel in London's Grosvenor Square, where anyone who is anyone in the EMEA Carrier Ethernet market has gathered for the annual Light Reading event.

ADVA Optical Networking has launched its FSP 150EG-X edge gateway, which the vendor says acts as a timing gateway for synchronization services and includes the termination of pseudowire services.

Omnitron Systems Technology Inc. 's iConverter HybridNIDTM and RAD Data Communications Ltd. 's ETX-204A Carrier Ethernet demarcation device have been deployed as part of the European Advanced Networking Test Center AG (EANTC) Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Showcase here at Ethernet Europe. The showcase has been a forum for demonstrating how multiple service providers can be interconnected and deliver end-to-end Carrier Ethernet services across regions where neither provider can have complete network coverage. Equinix Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) has added three new members to its Carrier Ethernet Exchange, namely Broadnet Norge AS , KDDI Corp. and TeraGate AG . Equinix's global platform now comprises more than 625 network service providers and 3,275 customers.

Away from the Ethernet action...

Plenty of light and shade at Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK): On the one hand the handset giant is launching the first two smartphones to contain the updated Symbian software, the E6 and X7, while on the other Bloomberg reports that the Nokia workforce in Finland is bracing itself for a jobs armageddon at the end of the month, with talk -- unconfirmed by Nokia -- of 6,000 positions disappearing as Symbian and MeeGo start to be sidelined following the big tie-up with Microsoft. Talking of Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT), Londoners seeing cars with roof-mounted cameras trundling along their mean streets in the coming weeks may suspect Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is at it again with StreetView, but they'd be wrong, reports the BBC: It's Microsoft gathering data for its Streetside service, which sounds like Street View-lite, if we're brutally honest.
