Cox Shines in Ethernet Services
Cox ranked as the number-four player in retail business Ethernet services, capturing 8.9 percent of the market by mid-year 2007, based on port share. Cox trailed 10-ton telecom gorillas AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) (19.5 percent share) and Verizon Enterprise Solutions (15.8 percent), followed by tw telecom inc. (Nasdaq: TWTC)'s 13.7 percent.
Interestingly, the AT&T total combines numbers for the old AT&T/SBC and BellSouth. BellSouth alone only accounted for 8.5 percent of the Ethernet market during the period, meaning Cox topped that Baby Bell, as well as Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q), which garnered an 8.4 percent share.
While Bright House Networks , Charter Business , Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK)'s business unit, and Cablevision's Optimum Lightpath division weren't able to make it beyond the aggregated "other" segment, perhaps they will soon be eating into ILEC and CLEC Ethernet share, too.
