Cox Continues Ethernet Climb

In the first half of 2007, Cox Communications Inc. became the first cable MSO to crack the top echelon of business Ethernet service providers, capturing 8.9 percent of the market, based on port share. (See Cox Shines in Ethernet Services.)

As the year rolled on, the MSO continued to gain momentum, finishing 2007 as the No. 4 business Ethernet provider, with 10 percent of the market, according to the latest numbers from Vertical Systems Group . (See Cox Touts Ethernet Biz Share .)

It's an impressive feat for (relatively speaking) tiny Cox Communications, compared to titans AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ). These telco 10-ton gorillas weighed in at 22 percent and 17 percent, respectively, in the Ethernet services segment. Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) became the second MSO to crack the Ethernet top 10, coming it at No. 7, with 5 percent share.

Back in December, major MSOs said they meant business when it came to business services. (See Cable Means Business .) Cox is leading the way in turning industry talk into action.
