Carrier Ethernet Service & Technology Trends

8:00 AM -- Heavy Reading’s new Carrier Ethernet Service & Technology Trends & Issues: Europe 2012 report is now available for purchase. This report draws upon the views shared by more than 20 senior service provider experts who participated in Light Reading’s Ethernet Europe 2012 event jointly held with the MEF in Munich, Germany, during April 2012. Nearly all of these professionals are members of Heavy Reading’s global Ethernet Executive Council (EEC).

Senior experts from the following service providers participated in keynotes, roundtables, and sessions at Ethernet Europe: AboveNet (now part of Zayo), Amsterdam Internet Exchange, AT&T, Belgacom, Broadnet, Colt Communications Services, Deutsche Telekom, Dimension Data, Equinix, euNetworks, GTS CE, Inteliquent, Interoute, Level 3, PCCW Global, P&T Luxembourg, TeliaSonera, TeliaSonera International, Telx and Verizon.

I was so pleased with the quality of the discussion and the insight provided by these senior service provider experts that I wanted to capture it for our larger Light Reading audience. The lessons learned from Europe are applicable for other regions as well.

The new 45-page special report provides a window into the carrier Ethernet market unavailable from any other source. When you combine this with Heavy Reading’s recently released Ethernet Executive Council State-of-the-Industry, 2Q 2012, you get a fairly comprehensive picture of how the carrier Ethernet service and technology markets are likely to develop and what issues are top-of-mind right now for service provider decision makers.

Carrier Ethernet Service & Technology Trends & Issues: Europe 2012 captures the perspectives of EEC members on the following topics:
  • Service Trends & Issues: (1) Ethernet service evolution, (2) wholesale Ethernet service provider needs and trends, (3) Ethernet service innovation, (4) the shift toward an Ethernet-enabled, cloud-centric utility model, (5) interconnection within cloud-based ecosystems and (6) cloud and Ethernet cloud carrier services.

  • Carrier Ethernet 2.0: (1) manageability, (2) interconnection and (3) multiple classes-of-service.

  • Technology Trends & Issues: (1) service management (including performance assured Ethernet), (2) software defined networking (SDN), (3) 100G optical transport, (4) 100GE interfaces on switches/routers, (5) converging network layers and (6) Carrier Ethernet for mobile backhaul.
The report also provides an update on Deutsche Telekom’s strategy for migrating from traditional SDH services to a carrier Ethernet-based product portfolio.

Carrier Ethernet Service & Technology Trends And Issues: Europe 2012 is priced at $3,995, while the EEC State-the-Industry Survey Report, 2Q 2012 is available for $4,995. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about the reports.

As a heads-up, we also plan to prepare a post-show report for Ethernet Expo Americas 2012 that will be from Nov. 6 to 8.
