Ethernet Europe 2012 – Event Preview

3:00 AM -- On April 17 and 18, 2012, industry professionals from companies across Europe and around the world will gather at the Hilton Munich Park Hotel in Germany for Light Reading's Ethernet Europe 2012, one of the largest networking events in EMEA focused on Carrier Ethernet-related services and Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, and packet optical network technologies. So far, several dozen Ethernet and cloud service providers, network solutions providers, industry organizations and research firms are lined up to participate directly in this year’s event, and we expect more to join this group over the next few weeks.
Here is a preview of what to expect from the show:
Key topics and session formats
The keynotes and sessions at this year’s event will focus heavily on building dynamic, scalable networks to support cloud and converged wireline and wireless services. Four main topics covered during the show include: (1) Ethernet-enabled cloud services and Ethernet business service innovation; (2) Ethernet Wholesale, interconnection, and mobile backhaul service challenges and opportunities; (3) end-to-end service management and performance-assured Ethernet; and (4) 100GE and other next-generation Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, and packet optical technologies supporting converged business, wholesale, residential, and mobile services. This year’s sessions are designed to be both educational and engaging for the audience -- with ample time devoted to real-world case studies, panel debate, and questions and answers with audience members.
Keynote lineup
We are delighted with our keynote lineup, which so far includes: (1) Henry Bohannon, head of Ethernet and IP services product management, Colt Communication Services; (2) Margaret Choisi, executive director, optics and Ethernet development, AT&T, and board director, MEF; (3) Markus Lautenschlager, product manager, Ethernet solutions, Deutsche Telekom; (4) Keao Caindec, SVP and chief marketing officer, OpSource; and (5) Nan Chen, president and board director, MEF.
Ethernet Executive Council members and other service provider participants
We are on track to have more than 15 senior service and technology experts from European and international service providers speak at this year’s event, including at least a dozen members of Heavy Reading’s global Ethernet Executive Council Program launched in September 2011. This includes speakers from host sponsor Colt, gold sponsor Equinix, Deutsche Telekom, AT&T, AboveNet, Broadnet, euNetworks, GTS CE, Inteliquent (formerly Tinet and Neutral Tandem), Level 3, OpSource, P&T Luxembourg, Verizon and other operators to be announced soon.
Leading Carrier Ethernet network solutions providers
Nearly 20 network hardware, software, and component suppliers will be spotlighting their newest solutions for building, scaling and maintaining Carrier Ethernet/MPLS-based networks. This includes platinum sponsors Overture and RAD, as well as Accedian, Actelis, ADVA, AimValley, Canoga Perkins, Ciena, Cyan, EXFO, InfoVista, Ixia, JDSU, MRV, Omnitron Systems, Telco Systems, Transition Networks, Transmode and VeEX.
MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0
Ethernet Europe will be the first major Carrier Ethernet-related event at which MEF President Nan Chen and other experts will be sharing an update on the organization’s Carrier Ethernet 2.0 initiative announced on Feb. 23. CE 2.0 is characterized by three important standardized features -- including multiple classes of service (Multi-CoS), interconnection, and manageability -- that are designed to enable the delivery of differentiated applications over managed and interconnected networks worldwide.
We look forward to seeing you in Munich. Be sure to check out the Ethernet Europe 2012 site for show updates, a detailed agenda, and information on sponsoring and participating companies.
