Rumor: ANDA's About to Be Acquired
The deal is apparently underway. The chatter about it started last week and got a boost from Tuesday's announcement that Hatteras Networks Inc. and Overture Networks Inc. , two other Carrier Ethernet equipment vendors, are tying the knot. (See Overture & Hatteras Gang Up on Carrier Ethernet.)
Who would be the acquirer? Light Reading has barely started delving into that question -- but wouldn't Ciena Corp. (NYSE: CIEN) seem like an obvious guess? Ciena's CN 3000 series, now called ActivEdge 3000, started life as an OEM version of ANDA's gear. Ciena also helped bring ANDA in to the BT Group plc (NYSE: BT; London: BTA) 21CN project. If ANDA goes, who would be left among privately held Carrier Ethernet vendors? The list-topper would be Actelis Networks Inc. , Hatteras's rival and a contender for market-share leader in Ethernet-over-copper gear. There's also RAD Data Communications Ltd. , the 30-year-old company that's also into multiservice access products.
