Photos: Fall Interop 2011

Who says Interop New York isn't as big as Interop Las Vegas? Everybody, actually, and they're right. But we still found last week's Interop edition to be worth the trip, not just for the actual news and technology, but for exhibit-floor goofing-off.

Wow, great kept secret.

(Rim shot.)  OK, that's a good one!

It's true the NYC Interop isn't big, and it's always been smaller than the Vegas edition, from what I've heard. But it was pretty busy, at least on the first day on the show floor. (The second day, being Friday, was probably a lot emptier. Heck, *I* left on Thursday...)

FWIW, vendor enthusiasm for this show, at least in terms of pitching news to us, was unusually strong. At least, that's how it seemed to me. I think that just reflects the fervor around data center and a sense that Cisco's vulnerable.

We missed the HP juggler. Saw the juggling pins, but the juggler didn't happen to be around during the moments Matt Carr and I were near the HP booth.

One pic we didn't use: One of the main doors into the exhibit hall -- you know, those big -w i d e- doors that the rent-a-guard folks stand in front of -- started closing about an hour into the floor time.  Matt and I thought this was kind of funny. You know, the way in sci-fi movies the commanders seal off the section of the spaceship or lab where something completely awful is about to happen. Anyway, we didn't get a picture in time -- Matt's shot shows the door completely closed, which makes it look like the show's simply ended -- and I couldn't make the caption funny enough to work.

Yes, these are the kinds of things we obsess about when we take a camera onto the show floor.

Turns out Farmer Mike, the pumpkin carver, is a big deal.  I had no idea.
