Overture Networks sharpens the carrier Ethernet edge with the ISG 6000

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Overture Networks, the industry’s trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider, has announced the release of the ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet Aggregation System. Designed to dramatically simplify the transition to an all- Carrier Ethernet service infrastructure, the ISG 6000 is deployed in a service provider’s Central Office (CO) or Point of Presence (PoP) as the first-level aggregation point. The ISG 6000 enables service providers to consolidate traffic from the “hat trick” of business services—Carrier Ethernet, managed IP services and TDM private lines—and improve top-line revenue while reducing bottom-line costs.

The ISG 6000 is powered by the new Overture Networks MaestrOS™, a network operating system that provides the foundation for flexible, reliable and operationally efficient Carrier Ethernet aggregation. Designed with the knowledge of more than five successful years of deployments in some of the largest Carrier Ethernet networks in the world, MaestrOS is based on three fundamental principles: deliver the highest possible performance with the maximum flexibility, offer highly resilient and reliable operations and provide the right set of tools to manage the equipment and maintain services. Together, the Overture Networks ISG 6000 and MaestrOS give service providers the tools, for the first time, to groom all service traffic to the IP/MPLS core as simple Ethernet.

The ISG 6000 provides multi-layer Carrier Ethernet aggregation through three primary service functions:



  • Layer 2 Carrier Ethernet services –E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree and Ethernet access to IP/MPLS services are provided via native Ethernet or TDM with aggregation of hundredsof customers and multiple classes of service

  • Layer 3 IP to Ethernet service interworking – Customer IP service traffic delivered over traditional circuits such as T1/E1 or NxT1/E1 are aggregated and converted to S-VLANs for handoff to the IP/MPLS core

  • Layer 1 private line TDM pseudowires –High revenue-producing TDM circuits can be efficiently transported across the packet infrastructure using standard SAToP pseudowires.



By combining these complementary functions into a single platform and providing targeted operational enhancements such as circuit-to-services OAM fault propagation, the ISG 6000 is making Ethernet easier for service providers to deliver high-value services consistently to all of their business customers. As service providers continue to scale, both in terms of range and reach, the need for higher-density aggregation of Ethernet and IP services is critical.
