CHICAGO -- Intuitive Imaging, a picture archive and communication system (PACS) provider, will demonstrate the latest in interactive clinical technology built on network solutions from Allied Telesis Inc., a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of converged multi-play networks. Two next-generation demonstrations will exhibit real-time 3-D imagery of a human heart bypass operation, as well as radiology demonstrations to illustrate the speed, quality and delivery of medical images.

Due to the large and intricate nature of 3-D image files, medical facilities grapple with the process of transmitting them to their counterparties. Being able to present a unified medical imaging solution that leverages next-generation technology not only creates a more reliable healthcare solution, but provides an improved patient experience, as well as educational and research capabilities for medical professionals. Allied Telesis' advanced network solutions ensure that network resources and applications are always available, with superior high performance features for transmission of medical images. Products that support 10 Gigabit Ethernet ensure maximum data throughput for the core of the network, allowing it to cope with large amounts of stored data, and easily handle any large surges or times of peak demand.

"The typical hospital network requires the bandwidth of 1.2 GB to 1.5 GB, creating a limitation as to how far 3-D imagery can travel over a network. With the Allied Telesis solution, that limitation is now roughly 30 miles. In a medical application, we can now network several hospitals together in a given region and use this technology to train medical staff or exhibit actual operations to be supervised by experts," said Takayoshi Oshima, chairman and CEO of Allied Telesis. "This is one big step forward for the medical field with great implications in quality of care. Our Company's role is to partner with other leaders in the space to create progress in healthcare network technology, and ultimately better healthcare."
