Cisco Gets Virtual

2:30 PM -- There's so much going on in virtualization of different types. Server virtualization. Storage virtualization. All-in-one I/O virtualization, of the sort Xsigo Systems Inc. is pitching. (See Xsigo Gets Real, Gets Virtual and Xsigo Pumps Up.)

Twice in the past week, I've been told Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) has some big things coming up in Ethernet services, particularly when it comes to virtualization.

Cisco already has Nexus. (See Cisco's Nexus Targets Data Center's Future.) The rumored New Things sound more Ethernet obsessed, as opposed to Ethernet-plus-storage. And if it truly involves virtualization, next week's VMworld would seem a good time for an announcement.

I'll see what I can find out. If you've heard something, the anonymity-guaranteed line is always open at [email protected].
