Cisco Drops Hints

3:35 PM -- Today's Mercury News includes an executive Q&A with Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) CTO Padmasree Warrior.

Sometimes, these interviews don't yield much. They could go under the stock headline, "Friendly Local Paper Throws Softball Questions, Transcribes Vacant Dilbert-esque Answers." And there's certainly some of that here, like the part about "taking the message of Cisco's innovation and our strategy to various stakeholders beyond customers."

Still, give Cisco and the Merc some credit for keeping a high profile for Warrior. Given the amount of change going on at Cisco, Warrior's role is significant.

Along those lines, she provides a stock PR answer to the question about Cisco's putative server announcement, now presumed to be happening this coming Monday. Warrior talks up Cisco's "unified computing" concept -- which involves storage, servers, and networks working together in a way that sounds as if it would be a lot easier if Cisco sold servers. You can take a deeper plunge at Cisco's corporate blog.
