MONTREAL -- Accedian Networks ™, a leading provider of Packet Performance Assurance ™ solutions for telecom, cable and wireless communications providers, introduced today the industry’s first zero-latency traffic shaping feature for Ethernet demarcation unit s. This advanced functionality allows service providers to accelerate real-time services, reduce network overhead and economize bandwidth for performance-intensive Ethernet & MPLS business services, 3G & 4G wireless backhaul, and inter-carrier handoff & peering applications.

Fast-Thru™ traffic shaping transmits critical, real-time traffic with no added delay or jitter, unlike store-and-forward methods commonly implemented in network switches and routers. While real-time traffic passes unaffected, lower priority traffic is categorized and priority-queued, then transmitted as bandwidth becomes available. Advanced real-time traffic selection functionality allow service providers to define priority flows based on a wide range of Ethernet and IP packet characteristics, ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) sensitive applications meet demanding performance requirements often specified in Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Traffic shaping is available on Accedian Networks’ recently introduced MetroNID™ demarcation unit, also capable of high-performance bandwidth policing, traffic filtering and Ethernet service creation, all powered by its hardware-based Fast-Thru™ architecture. The MetroNID uniquely combines these capabilities with an entire suite of service assurance features providing continuous SLA monitoring, layer 1-4 loopbacks, in-service throughput testing and standards-based Operations Administration & Maintenance (OAM) functionality.

By combining service creation & service assurance functionality in a compact demarcation unit designed for installation at customer premises, cell sites and carrier handoff points, service providers can now easily provision and assure end-to-end SLAs over multi-vendor, multi-technology and multi-carrier networks without lengthy provisioning delays and costly network upgrades.

“Service providers have long-awaited test & measurement features integrated into their network elements as the combination of service creation and service assurance drives simplified deployment of differentiated services with exceptional QoS.” explained Patrick Ostiguy, founding President & CEO of Accedian Networks. “With a twist of innovation, we have addressed this unfulfilled demand by integrating carrier-class service creation functionality into our trusted service assurance solutions. Already, service providers are deploying these combined capabilities to establish efficient, high-performance business access and 3G/4G wireless backhaul services. We expect this trend of distributed service creation and service assurance to accelerate as operators tap into this new, cost-effective networking model.”
