Ericsson Weighs In

12:30 PM -- You can almost see the dollar signs in Mike Z's eyes, as the Nortel Networks Ltd. CEO dreams of banking $1 billion for his company's CDMA and LTE (Long Term Evolution) access assets.

That sum, a 50 percent-plus hike from the initial $650 million Nokia Networks bid, is achievable now that Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC) has joined the fray. (See Ericsson Bids for Nortel Wireless Assets.)

But what's the motivation behind Ericsson's involvement? Does it have a burning passion to be a CDMA player again? I have my suspicions -- see The Spoilers of War.
